In April 2025 Marianne decided she wanted to give Vanlife a go so we booked a nice camping pitch at Delta Camping in Locarno and headed down to Ticino for the weekend.

I prebooked my favourite pitch at my (currently) favourite Caravan Park and we set up camp on Friday afternoon. It was a bit tricky at first getting Marianne in and out of the van but after a few goes, and a couple of small mishaps, we started to get the hang of it.

Located just a couple of minutes from the center of Locarno, Camping Delta is embedded in the subtropical flora of a fabulous park, and situated along both the shore of the bright blue Lake Maggiore as well as the banks of the glistening Maggia river. It is absolutely gorgeous here.
It didn't take us long to get the table and chairs set up out from of the van and I was quite surprised how quickly Marianne settled into the vanlife lifestyle. Sitting out front of the van, taking in the beautiful view of Lago Maggiore, sipping on a glass of Chardonnay and greeting our fellow campers as they strolled past.

It's about a 25 minute walk/roll to the centre of town from the camping ground. The path runs along the side of the lake and offers spectacular views of Locarno, Lago Maggiore and the surrounding mountains.

The Saltimbocca and risotto was delicious! This was actually our second vist to Ristorante Borromeo. The first time was with Tessa & Till back in July 2024 when we took the train down to Locarno/Ascona for the day.

With two very comfortable beds in the van, we both slept well. Marianne was very warm and cosy on the lower bed in the back of the van and I slept “upstairs” in the roof bunk. Marianne even enjoyed her outdoor breakfast of cereal and Ovomaltine!
Overall it was a very enjoyable weekend in Locarno. I think Marianne really enjoyed her first taste of Vanlife and we have already begun discussing the next trip and ways to make the van experience even better.
